“Pool Swimmers” (Live at Market Hotel 08.22.09) - Real Estate

If you’ve been lucky enough to see Real Estate live, then you would know why this band is gaining plenty of buzz on the Internet, even without the release of a full-length album. On August 22, the already impressive Underwater Peoples label presented their first showcase at Market Hotel in Brooklyn, with Real Estate as the closer. Standing Room was in attendance, and we bring you one of the songs from Real Estate’s set. The B-side to the US-released “Fake Blues” 7”, “Pool Swimmers” is a personal favorite of mine, because it captures why Real Estate is such a compelling listen. While listening to this song, I am immediately transported to a lazy summer afternoon with nothing better to do but to lounge around in a kiddie pool. With soothing instrumentals that invoke images of the shore and vocals gently sprinkled on top, “Pool Swimmers” is a song that is guaranteed to produce some relaxed smiles. And, if New Jersey produced a band like Real Estate, then I guess it’s not such a bad place.
