The official blog of Standing Room. Music as it should be -- live, vibrant, and accessible.
Miracles of Modern Science is a unique group. They’re a bunch of string players who met in college, decided to plug in, and found themselves a drummer. MOMS deliberately opted to have no guitar, and as a result, the music takes on a refreshingly distinctive sound.
My personal favorite is the enigmatically titled “524”, a ballad about “a boy named John” who meets a tragic romantic fate in what one would imagine is a wild wild west fantasy.
I had the privilege of recording MOMS at Le Poisson Rouge shortly after they attained the distinction of being the first band to sign up for Standing Room. That set may also soon have the distinction of being the first up in its entirety!
